Who we are

Sea to Sky Calgary is a Gospel-centered, Spirit-empowered church plant launching in September 2026 in Calgary's deep south, centered in Seton and extending to surrounding communities like Rangeview, Auburn Bay, Cranston, Mahogany, and Legacy.

Drawing from Psalm 107:23–30, we meet people amid life's turbulent uncertainties ("Sea") and guide them upward to clarity, peace, and a transformative relationship with Christ ("Sky") through discipleship.

Our mission: Elevating people from the sea of uncertainty to the sky of clarity and relationship with Christ.

Rooted in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20), we focus on disciple-making, multiplication, and Spirit-led outreach to reach those who do not yet know Jesus—particularly newcomers facing isolation, unchurched seekers, musicians and creatives seeking purpose, youth (13–18) navigating identity and pressures, and families with young children desiring vibrant community.

We prioritize small group-driven ministry, relational evangelism, culturally relevant worship (with creative arts and original music), family-centric programs, and prayer dependence. Monthly gatherings at venues like the Evan Hazell Theatre in Seton's YMCA provide welcoming spaces for larger worship and outreach.

What we believe

We're part of something bigger! Sea to Sky Calgary is affiliated with The Wesleyan Church, a denomination that shares our passion for seeing lives transformed by the hope and holiness of Jesus. We joyfully adhere to their foundational beliefs, drawn straight from Scripture, and we're thankful for the connection that helps us serve Calgary with integrity and vision.

Our vision

This vision comes alive through stories like these, painting a picture of lives changed and communities renewed:

  • Maria, a recent immigrant from the Philippines, arrived in Seton feeling adrift amid cultural isolation. Through a small group in her neighborhood, she found welcoming conversations laced with the gospel's hope. Baptized after sharing her story at a monthly YMCA gathering, Maria now leads a newcomer connect group, her family thriving in Christ-centered community.

To become a thriving, Gospel-centred and Spirit-empowered church in the deep south of Calgary where thousands of newcomers, unchurched seekers, musicians, youth, and families encounter Jesus, grow in vibrant faith, and transform communities through authentic, culturally relevant relationships and creative worship.

  • Alex, a local guitarist chasing gigs in Calgary's music Page 2 scene, stumbled into a worship showcase feeling purposeless. Strumming alongside believers, the lyrics of grace pierced his heart. Today, Alex composes original songs for our services, his talent now a vessel for drawing unchurched friends to Jesus.

  • Jordan, a 15-year-old from Auburn Bay battling digital distractions, joined our CCM music program skeptical of faith. Learning "Way Maker" on bass unlocked not just chords but a sense of divine purpose. Now, Jordan mentors younger teens, his bold testimony inspiring a band of peers to explore discipleship.

  • The Patel family in Mahogany juggled young kids and long commutes, distant from spiritual roots. A family faith arts session sparked wonder in their children, leading parents to small group Bible studies. Transformed by relational evangelism, they host neighborhood barbecues where they share the gospel with their friends and neighbours.

These stories illustrate our vision: ordinary lives elevated from sea-level searching to sky-high purpose, fueled by the gospel, empowered by the Spirit, and multiplied through relationships that echo Christ's transformative love.

Our vision and mission are inspired by the biblical call in Matthew 28:19–20 to make disciples among all peoples, Acts 1:8 to be witnesses to the ends of the earth through the Holy Spirit’s power, Romans 10:14–15, which urges sending messengers so that people may hear and believe the good news of Christ, and Psalm 107:23-30, where people cry out amid the sea's raging storms only for God to calm the waves and guide them to refuge

Drawing from principles of clear vision, balanced purposes, missional blueprints, and diaspora strategies, this framework is tailored to the deep south of Calgary’s suburban areas characterized by rapid population growth (5-6% annually), young families, and increasing diversity.

This approach ensures health-driven growth. It prioritizes spiritual, relational, and missional vitality over superficial numerical increases. Ultimately, it aligns expansion with God's purposes, focusing on those who have not yet placed their faith in Jesus rather than metrics like attendance alone. Guiding this health-driven growth are our core values, which form the foundational principles informing every decision and action we take.

Our core values

Our core values shape our identity and guide every decision:

Gospel at the Core: Anchoring all we do in the transformative good news of Jesus Christ.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 declares that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and rose again on the third day, forming the core of our proclamation and life together. Romans 1:16 affirms the gospel as the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, emphasizing its transformative centrality. Galatians 1:6–9 warns against any other gospel, underscoring our commitment to uncompromised truth in evangelism and discipleship.

Spirit Dependence: Trusting the Holy Spirit’s guidance over self effort.

  • Acts 1:8 promises power through the Holy Spirit for witness, emphasizing reliance over self-effort. Romans 8:26-27 describes the Spirit interceding in weakness, aiding prayer and direction. Ephesians 3:16-19 highlights the Spirit filling believers for deeper dependence.

Relational Mission: Loving people into faith through intentional, authentic relationships.

  • Matthew 28:19-20 commissions making disciples of all nations through teaching and baptism, prioritizing global outreach. Luke 4:18-19 announces good news to the poor and liberty to captives, embodying compassionate mission. 1 Peter 3:8-15 calls believers to live honorably among others so that they may see righteous lives and be ready to gently share the hope within. Romans 12:14-21 emphasizes blessing persecutors, living peaceably, and overcoming evil with good through relational harmony. Additionally, 1 Corinthians 11:1-2 encourages imitating Christ through example in community, fostering trust for faith-sharing.

Culturally Engaged: Embracing Calgary’s diversity with respect and contextual relevance.

  • Galatians 3:28 declares unity in Christ transcends ethnic and social divides, promoting inclusive ministry. Acts 17:16-34 models Paul's respectful engagement with Athenian culture, quoting their poets to bridge to the gospel. This reflects the call to adapt proclamation without compromising truth, honouring diverse contexts.

Creatively Expressive: Honoring God through innovative, image-bearing worship.

  • Psalm 150:3-5 invites praise with diverse instruments, dance, and resounding cymbals, celebrating creative worship forms. Colossians 3:17 urges doing all in word or deed in Jesus' name with thanks, encompassing artistic expressions as offerings. Genesis 1:27 roots human creativity in God's image, inspiring contextually relevant worship.

Flourishing Community: Nurturing families and fostering welcoming unity in Christ’s love.

  • Genesis 1:28 blesses families to be fruitful and steward creation together, laying a foundation for spiritual legacy. Deuteronomy 6:6-9 commands parents to teach God's words diligently to children in daily life. Philippians 2:2 calls for unified purpose in love, strengthening family ties that mirror Christ's body. Acts 2:42-47 depicts the early church's devoted fellowship, breaking bread, and joyful sharing as a model for vibrant unity. Hebrews 10:24-25 urges spurring one another toward love and good deeds through regular gathering. Ephesians 4:2-3 calls for humility, patience, and peace preserving bonds in the Spirit.

These core values not only define who we are but also direct our outreach efforts, ensuring we effectively connect with the specific communities and individuals God has called us to serve in the deep south of Calgary.

Who we reach

Drawing from the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19–20 to reach all nations and the missional call in Acts 1:8 to witness to scattered peoples, we focus on those who do not yet trust in Jesus, including marginal and isolated groups facing spiritual disconnection in the deep south of Calgary. Centered in Seton, our outreach targets the surrounding family oriented suburban communities of Rangeview, Auburn Bay, Cranston, Mahogany, and Legacy. These areas are among Calgary's fastest-growing suburbs, with populations expanding 5-6% annually driven by international migration and young families relocating for affordable housing and community amenities. This growth, projected to add thousands of residents by 2029, creates fertile ground for evangelism among diverse newcomers and seekers.

Seton

Emerging urban district with high diversity and young professionals; ideal for newcomers and creatives seeking connection.

Rangeview

Family-heavy suburb with growing immigrant families; supports relational evangelism in established neighborhoods.

Auburn Bay

High concentration of young families and recent immigrants from Asia; perfect for family and newcomer ministries.

Cranston

Balanced growth with diverse households; targets unchurched seekers in active, community focused setting.

Mahogany

Rapidly expanding lake community attracting families and immigrants; emphasizes creative family engagement.

Legacy

Highest diversity in area with strong Filipino and Black populations; prioritizes diaspora missiology for fringe groups.

These demographics justify our focus: high percentages of young children (23-29%) and families with kids (37-56%) align with family engagement; immigrant rates (26-38%) and visible minorities (29-43%) match newcomer outreach; lower established church presence in suburbs draws unchurched seekers.[5] While suburban, these communities connect to Calgary's vibrant arts scene through local musician networks (e.g., Calgary Musician Organization) and events, enabling creative expression for artists seeking purpose.

  • Newcomers: Immigrants, refugees, and international students from around the world facing cultural isolation, drawn through outreach and practical support to hear the gospel.

  • Musicians and Creatives: Artists seeking purpose, engaged via worship arts and music showcases to encounter Christ’s transformative love.

  • Youth (13–18): Teens navigating identity, purpose, and digital pressures, reached through dynamic music and arts programs that cultivate creative expression and gospel centered community.

  • Unchurched Seekers: Those exploring faith or distant from God, welcomed through grace-filled conversations and events that point to Jesus.

  • Families with Young Children: Parents and kids (ages 3 12) seeking meaning, reached through vibrant programs that introduce them to the hope of the gospel.

This contextual approach leverages the biblical model in Acts 17:16-34 for urban-adjacent, post-Christian settings where people need to hear the gospel afresh. With a clear understanding of our target audiences, we now turn to the planting model that structures how we will engage and disciple them in practical, Spirit-led ways.
